What Every Business Needs to Know About A2P 10DLC

What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC is a system that allows businesses to send application-to-peer messages using a 10-digit long code. This has become an industry standard as lawmakers and carriers, including Verizon and T-Mobile, have set compliance rules that all businesses must adhere to.

What are the benefits of A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC provides businesses with the ability to communicate securely and compliantly with their customers. By complying with this regulation through a number of different technologies, businesses can ensure their messaging use cases meet all regulatory requirements, which reduces the risk of campaign denial and ensures their texts will be delivered successfully. Additionally, A2P 10DLC compliance ensures that text messages will be delivered to your customers, so long as you meet all other required text messaging compliance requirements. Put simply, if you ignore A2P 10DLC, your business text messages will not be delivered.

Why is A2P 10DLC Registration Mandatory?

A2P 10DLC has been around since 2019, first introduced by Verizon, and all other major carriers followed. The reason? Their was demand from busineses with high text message throughput, so carriers needed a way to differentiate these use cases. As it turns out, this led to what we know A2P 10DLC today, which is a more stern eye on all business texting use cases and better oversight by third party regulators to reduce spam texting.

So what’s next? As of July 5, 2023, businesses that have not registered for A2P 10DLC may find their text messages being increasingly filtered out. By August 31, 2023, non-registered businesses may have all their texts blocked entirely. This makes A2P 10DLC registration not just beneficial, but mandatory for businesses looking to maintain effective communication with their customers.

How Does the Registration Process Work a Step-by-Step Guide

1. Provide your business’s W-9 form to texting vendor (like Structurely) for verification.
2. The Campaign Registry (TCR) reviews the Campaign registration and approves it.
3. Ensure you have opt-in consent or a disclaimer on all forms of communication.
4. Your messaging use cases will be reviewed by TCR for campaign approval.
5. If approved, your texts can now be delivered using an A2P 10DLC system with compliance rules in place

The process begins by providing your business’s W-9 form to verify its legitimacy. Texting vendors such as Twilio or FiveNine are responsible for validating this information. An intermediary known as The Campaign Registry (TCR) then facilitates the approval of the registrations.

The more complex aspect of the process lies in campaign approval, where TCR reviews your messaging use cases. It is essential to ensure you have opt-in consent or a disclaimer on all forms, as failing to do so could result in campaign denial and your texts going undelivered.
